In Bruge

This city is like Disneyworld. These are pictures from the Half Moon Brewery which is walking distance from the center of the city. They make a nice white beer a little less spicy than hoegaarden.

Delerium Tremens

I was at the Delerium Cafe and I cannot say enough about this place. It is the ideal location to go drinking up until about the age of 40. It's large, has big tables forcing groups to intermingle, has a huge tap selection and is directly across the street from an absinthe bar which people go back and forth to. In this picture, I am drinking their Delerium Tremens (it does not appear to be made onsite.) From what I hear, it is always packed including locals and travelers. You can order beers in a giant boot or giant glass but on top of paying for the beer you have to put down a 50 euro deposit. maybe once i get a good group of visitors here we'll polish off a boot.

Mort Subite

This place translates as sudden death. It reminds me of McSorley's, kind of an institution and the waiters are exactly the same. They brew a couple of their own beers including a Geuze, a Lambic and a Kriek. That cheese in the picture? We ganked it. Took it from some Japanese dude sitting next to us when he left. I will be making many return trips here. Oh, and our server was on some US beer show called 3 sheets. The beer is pretty damn good too.

Guinness ?

No, this is a De Koninck and a Hoegaarden served in the Irish Times Pub in the city centre of Antwerp. Antwerp is definitely worth a week-end and there are a huge amount of bars and restaurants and a university in the Grand Place area.

Drink Local

When you visit Antwerp, you need to have a De Koninck. You order it by asking for a Bolleke, which translates to a male testicle and is representative of the style of glass it is served in. I really enjoy this ale, lots of malt flavor with a little bit of an alcohol finish.

Primus

It's a popular lager style beer, nothing special.

Buy a beer, get free cheese

The cheese was better than the beer. Good marketing concept. Tongerlo

Vieux Temps

It's been almost a month since I physically drank this beer, so I don't remember where I had it. But it was good.

Cantillon Brewery- Brussels

If I remember correctly, this is the oldest brewery still in Brussels. They make the beer now basically the same way as they did 100 years ago. They have a few different lambics on offering, but they taste nothing like Lindemann's or Mort Subite. These are seriously sour beers, even the Kriek, which I've only had extremely sweet prior to this. It was cool walking around the brewery which is very small and looks like it has never been cleaned. One thing I noticed in the keg room were some kegs with stickers that said Monk's on them. I inquired and apparently they make a special beer to export to Monk's Cafe in Philadelphia. I'm gonna have to visit that place. They said the owner comes to Belgium a few times a year. The beer on the left is the Kriek and on the right is the Geuze

That's right, more pictures of beer

Last pictures of Christmas beers. On left we have another Bush de Noel and on right we have a St. Feuillies Cuvee de Noel. I still have to go with the Bush, it's got a great malt taste. The cuvee is something I could probably drink more of, the flavors are not as in your face. Both quality beers.

Paris

Went to Paris the week-end after Christmas, great time to visit this city but extremely cold. Les Invalides was a good stop. I did not see it when I visited in 2001. It's a huge complex with multiple museums, many based on war and also housed Napolean's corpse. This beer, Edelweiss, is an Austrian hefeweizen that was on tap at a restaurant we went to. I would recommend it.

Beer Bar near me

These pictures are from a small bar near me. I don't know the name of it but will probably return. The Westmalle trappiste is a pretty good beer. Bottle conditioned, solid ale, not sure if it's considered a brown, don't think so. Jupiler seems to be the most popular beer in Belgium. It's a lager and only appears to be popular because they spend the most money on advertising. The Belgian national soccer league is called the Jupiler league. You're probably all familiar with Chimay. The face is a drawing that was done on the wall inside the bar. not sure why. the other picture is from outside just after leaving. place is small, smoky and loud, but decent.

Christmas Day Drinking

Enjoyed some of these fine beers at home on Christmas along with my family and an Arizonian guest. He will probably be making a lot of beer appearances going forward.

First pic is some Glogg- or what the French call Vin Chaud and the Germans call Gluhwein. It's all the same shit, warm spiced wine. This classy bottle was purchased along with five others from our local IKEA. It's trendy yet economic.

Second pic are some delicious Belgian brews as is the third.

Obviously, these things don't go in as I add them because that is the second time they moved the pictures around on me. Damn free blogs.

Egyptian beer forgot to include before

This was an Egyptian Hefeweizen called Luxor that was awesome. Luxor makes a couple of different beers but this one was the only drinkable. There are only a couple of brewers in Egypt being that it is a muslim country and the locals are not allowed to drink. I give it a Brooklyn.

I was drinking these in some bar called Yella on the boarwalk. Yella is arabic for let's go.
